The 2022 Jeep Wrangler has a max trailer towing capacity of 2,000 lbs for all 2-door variations and 3,500 lbs for all 4-door Jeeps. Any weight over 2,000 lbs requires a separate trailer braking system.
Ford says that the tongue weight for any towing should be no more than 10%. So this should be taken into account when setting up your trailer.
2022 Jeep Wrangler Towing Capacity
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler can tow up to 3,500 lbs for 4-door vehicles that are properly equipped. Jeep Wranglers with 2-doors can only tow 2,000 lbs.
The vehicle either has a GCWR of 8,016 lbs for the 2-door or 8,117 lbs for the 4-door vehicles.
The 3.0 L EcoDiesel vehicles are slightly different and have a CWR of 8,247 lbs.

For towing over 1,000 lbs in the Jeep Wrangler, trailers with brakes are recommended, but required for trailer weights over 2,000 lbs.
2022 Jeep Wrangler Tongue Weight
Tongue weight refers to the weight exerted on a trailer hitch/ball mount. Generally speaking the tongue weight should usually be between 10-15% of the total trailer weight.
However, Jeep specifies that for the Wrangler this should be 10% of the total weight. This means for a Wrangler carrying the max capacity, the tongue weight should be no more than 200 or 350 lbs for the 2-door and 4-door respectively.
Towing Features
All of the 2022 Jeep Wranglers have the ability to tow. They do not come manufactured to tow right away, but all have the ability to add the Trailer Tow and HD Electrical Group package.
This package includes:
- Class II Hitch Receiver
- 4/7 pin Wiring Harness
- 240 amp-alternator
- 700 amp batter
- 4 pre-wires auxiliary switches
However, built into every Wrangler is Trailer Sway Control, regardless of the inclusion of the towing package.

Payload Capacity
The best way to check the payload capacity is to find the GVWR listed on the certification sticker inside the driver’s side door. But they are mentioned in the e-brochure or owners manual which are shown below.
The total maximum payload capacity in all of the 2022 Wrangler is between 1,136 lbs and 1,233 lbs.

2022 Jeep Wrangler Engine Specs
2.0 L Turbo I4 Engine
The 2.0 L Turbo I4 Engine is the engine included on the hybrid/electric 4xe Wranglers. The 4xe Jeep Wranglers are all standard equipped with this engine as well as the PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) powertrain.
When the car is operated in the hybrid mode, the Jeep can supply 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
The 2.0 L by itself only supplies 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.
3.0 L EcoDiesel V6 Engine
The 3.0 L EcoDiesel V6 engine is available in all trim levels in the 2022 Wrangler, but is the only diesel engine offered.
It supplies 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque.
3.6 L Pentastar Engine
The 3.6 L Pentastar V6 engine is the standard engine that comes in all non 4xe trim levels of the 2022 Jeep Wrangler.
This engine supplies 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.
